About The Role
The Senior Mechanical Supervisor coordinates and oversees mechanical maintenance activities across key areas of the Mine Process Plant. This role provides hands‑on technical leadership, ensures safe and efficient execution of work, and drives plant reliability. A major responsibility includes developing, coaching, and upskilling the local workforce to meet operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise mechanical supervisors, technicians, and contractors.
- Assign daily tasks, set priorities, and ensure availability of tools, materials, and permits.
- Lead training, mentorship, and competency development programs for local employees, ensuring skill transfer and long‑term workforce sustainability.
- Promote a strong safety, performance, and teamwork culture.
- Oversee preventive, corrective, and predictive mechanical maintenance.
- Ensure quality repair and servicing of mechanical equipment pumps, conveyors, crushers, mills, thickeners, hydraulic systems, and piping.
- Support planning and execution of shutdowns, overhauls, and plant improvement projects.
- Review completed work orders and provide constructive feedback to improve reliability.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting for mechanical failures and recurring plant issues.
- Participate in root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Identify opportunities for equipment and process improvements to reduce downtime.
- Enforce strict adherence to permit-to-work, confined space, lifting, and hot work procedures.
- Conduct toolbox talks, field safety checks, and risk assessments.
- Support investigations of incidents and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Work closely with planners to scope jobs, define resource needs, and optimize scheduling.
- Communicate daily progress, equipment status, and priority changes to the superintendent.
- Ensure accurate reporting and documentation in the CMMS system.
Qualifications & Experience
- Mechanical trade qualification, technical diploma, or mechanical engineering background.
- 8–12 years of mechanical maintenance experience in mining or heavy industry.
- 3–5 years in a supervisory or senior supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, hydraulics, lubrication, and alignment.
- Experience with CMMS platforms such as SAP, Pronto, or Maximo.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Proven ability to train and develop local teams.
- High safety commitment and strong field discipline.
- Excellent troubleshooting and decision‑making ability.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high‑demand plant environment.

About The Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.
Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
