Cynthia Carroll cautions against marginalization of women in European boardrooms

Cynthia Carroll, the CEO of Anglo American who announced her resignation earlier today, has warned investors that calls for quotas regarding the number of women required to serve on European firms’ boards of directors may reduce women to having a token presence.

“I think there is a need to have more women running companies, but you can’t appoint women just to appoint women, to satisfy a particular condition. The last thing you want is token women,” Carroll told reporters today.
