Peru votes to extend informal mining permits for six more months
Informal mining workers have blockaded key highways to pressure for an extension.
Kostas Bintas, who started as Mercuria Energy Group’s new head of metals this year, says the trading house could take stakes in African projects as it looks to build out a large-scale metals business.
“You will see us very present in Africa and putting our money where our mouth is in respect of the Copperbelt,” he said during a panel at the Financial Times Africa Summit on Wednesday, referring to the mineral-rich region.
Better known in oil, natural gas and power, Mercuria returned to metals at scale this year, part of a wave of energy giants that are staffing up in the market to compete against the well established duo of Glencore Plc and Trafigura Group.
